105.5.29 Lithium Batteries

Specific Responsibilities for Lithium Batteries:

  • Proper Storage: Store batteries in the approved location and manner. Do not stack batteries unless they are specifically designed for it. Protect batteries from physical damage.
  • Charging Practices: Follow manufacturer's instructions for charging. Use only approved charging equipment and do not charge unattended in unapproved areas.
  • Segregation: Do not store batteries with other combustible materials.
  • Damaged Batteries: You must have a procedure for immediately removing any damaged, swollen, or overheating batteries from the building and placing them in a safe, isolated outdoor area.
  • Fire Protection: If special fire protection (e.g., specific sprinkler design, clean agent systems) was required for your storage area, it must be maintained in a fully operational state.
