Online Permitting & Reviews

Before applying for a Fire Construction or Fire Operational Permit, please ensure that your company has completed the Licensed Contractor Registration process and has an active account in the City of South San Francisco's online permitting portal.

You can submit your application, upload required documents, pay fees, and track the status of your project through the City of South San Francisco Online Permitting Portal.

Allow up to fifteen (15) business days for the initial plan review and up to ten (10) business days for each subsequent resubmittal review.

Expedited reviews are available upon request for an additional fee.

Inspections

Inspections can only be scheduled with the permit holder and with an approved permit issued by the Fire Department. The permit card, inspection record, and the approved plans shall remain at the construction site and be readily available to the Fire Inspector.

Inspection must be requested, a minimum of 48 hours prior to your desired inspection date. Inspections can be scheduled for either a morning or afternoon time slot. Inspection scheduling is done Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Please call 650-829-6645,Option 2 or email us at firepermitsgroup@ssfca.gov to schedule your inspection.

Inspection cancellations must be made 24 hours prior to your appointment. All cancellations, no shows, or failure to notify the Fire Department, within 24 hours of the appointment, will result in fees assessed to the applicant.

Overtime Inspections

All inspections outside of our normal business hours, on weekends and/or holidays are considered overtime inspections and are assessed at an overtime rate. Overtime requests must be submitted and paid a minimum of five (5) business days from the date of inspection. Overtime requests are not guaranteed and are at the discretion of the Fire Department.

NFPA 25 – Five-Year Inspections (Formerly known as Title 19)

Before requesting an NFPA 25 five-year witnessed inspection, please ensure your company is registered with the CSLB as a licensed contractor and has an active account in good standing in the City of South San Francisco’s online portal.

To request a witnessed inspection for an NFPA 25 five-year inspection, please complete the following steps:

  1. Complete an Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance application form.
  2. Email the completed form to firepermitsgroup@ssfca.gov, and include NFPA 25- Inspection Request in the subject line of the email.
  3. In the body of the email, include the following information:
    • Inspections are scheduled Monday – Friday from 8AM-4PM. Tell us the date of your requested inspection (we’ll inform you if the date is not available).
    • Include what time range you’re requesting the inspection; AM or PM inspection (AM inspections range from 8AM-12PM, and PM inspections range from 1PM-4PM). Our inspectors will reach out to your contact on the day of the inspection with an exact time.
    • Include your company’s on-site contact name and phone number.
  4. Within 24 hours of receipt of your completed application and inspection request information, our staff will process your documentation and add all associated fees through the online portal.
  5. An email will be sent to the designed account holder for payment due.
  6. Once the payment has been paid, you are required to email firepermitsgroup@ssfca.gov.
  7. Our staff will reach out to you within 24 hours (not including weekends) to confirm payment and your scheduled inspection.
