Every Story Counts… A week in the life of your public library

Every Story Counts…A week in the life of your public library is a statewide initiative to capture data, stories, and photos about how and why Californians use their local public library.
From Sunday, January 25 through Saturday, January 31, 2026, South San Francisco Public Library will be participating by asking community members to share their stories about visiting and using the library.

During the week, Library staff will capture photos and videos of library programs and services and will encourage patrons to share their own library stories. Whether community members are bringing a child to story time, using library computers, asking a question, creating a 3D print, attending a book club, checking out items such as books, ebooks, video games, or park passes, or one of the many other services provided by the library, we want to hear about it!
“South San Francisco Public Library staff work hard to provide our community a wide range of programs and services, including dynamic programming and access to books, technology, and public space,” said Library Director Valerie Sommer. “We want to know more about not only how and why our community uses the library, but also to hear directly from the community about their personal library experiences.”
South San Francisco Public Library continues to seek our community members’ valuable insight on our programs and services.
“We all know the value of public libraries and the strong return on investment they provide.” said Greg Lucas, California State Librarian. “Every Story Counts will help us create a more complete picture of the extraordinary range of activities that happen in libraries across the state.”
