105.5.60 (#1) Emergency Responder Communication Coverage System (ERRCS

Specific Responsibilities for ERRCS:

  • Annual Testing is Mandatory: You are responsible for having the entire system inspected and tested annually by a qualified technician. This test must verify that signal strength throughout the building still meets the code requirements as per CFC Section 510.6.1.
  • Maintain Records: A record of the annual test, including signal strength readings and a certification of compliance, must be kept on-site at all times. You must provide a copy to the Fire Department upon request.
  • Maintain System Integrity: The ERRCS must be maintained in a fully operational condition at all times. You must notify the Fire Department immediately if the system becomes impaired for any reason.
  • Prevent Modifications: Do not allow any building modifications (e.g., adding walls, installing new energy-efficient window coatings) that could negatively affect the radio signal without first consulting the system provider and potentially re-testing the system's performance.
  • Backup Power: The system's backup power supply (typically batteries and a charger) must be maintained and tested annually to ensure it can operate the system for the required duration (usually 12 or 24 hours).
  • Monitoring: Ensure the system's monitoring panel is active and that any trouble or supervisory signals are investigated promptly by a qualified service technician.
