Asian Art Museum presents Layers of Color: The Beauty and Impact of Woodblock Prints

Woodblock prints are among the most beloved and influential of all traditional Japanese art forms. Historically, these prints served multiple purposes — from advertising posters to printed books and promoting fashion icons. Over the years, their evolving techniques and unique visual characteristics have impacted many major artists and art movements around the world, especially the Impressionists. Journey through a selection of Japanese woodblock prints from the Asian Art Museum collection to heighten your appreciation of their beauty and learn more about the elements that have made them so widely influential.

The Asian Art Museum Docent Program is generously supported by the Dhanam Foundation and Society for Asian Art.

This program is made possible by the South San Francisco Friends of the Library.
