South San Francisco once again demonstrated the power of community through its annual Thanksgiving food distribution on November 24, 2025, held in partnership with the YMCA Community Resource Center. Thanks to the dedication of more than 130 volunteers, including YMCA staff, City staff, and members of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) who sorted, packed, and distributed food items - 650 local families received turkeys, whole chickens, and a generous assortment of fresh vegetables just in time for the holiday.

This year’s distribution continued the City’s commitment to supporting residents facing food insecurity and to ensuring every family can enjoy a warm, festive meal. Volunteers worked throughout the day to sort, package, and distribute holiday essentials, offering both efficiency and compassion to each household served.

The City extends its gratitude to the YMCA Community Resource Center, the volunteer teams, and all partners who made this event possible. Together, we continue to strengthen the spirit of South San Francisco, one family, and one act of service at a time.

“It’s an honor that we had another wonderful Thanksgiving Food Distribution event this year,” says Marie Patea, Executive Assistant to the City Manager. “Thanks to our amazing volunteers, YMCA Community Resource Center, Second Harvest Food Bank, Moonstar, city staff including Police, Fire, and local Fire Union 1507.”
