105.5.52 Tire-Rebuilding Plants

Specific Responsibilities for Tire-Rebuilding:

  • Dust Collection: The buffing machines must be equipped with a dust collection system that is maintained to prevent the accumulation of combustible rubber dust.
  • Control Ignition Sources: Prohibit smoking and open flames throughout the plant. A hot work permit is required for any welding or cutting.
  • Spraying Operations: If flammable cements or solvents are used, the spraying must be done in an approved spray booth with all required fire protection and ventilation systems maintained.
  • Housekeeping: Maintain a high level of housekeeping to prevent the accumulation of rubber dust, scrap, and combustible debris.
  • Storage: Raw materials and finished tires must be stored in an orderly manner, with clear aisles and proper clearance from sprinkler heads.
