Slices of Heaven

sculpture of 4 orange slices stacked on top of each other

Visitors to the Tennis Drive entrance of the Orange Memorial Park Sculpture Garden will encounter a delectable-looking column of orange slices. Featuring four oversized slices stacked at playful angles, “Slices of Heaven” offers a whimsical and colorful presence keeping with the artist’s style of Americana inspired art.

The engaging sculptor Craig Gray, cites the inspiration for the stacked oranges as coming from the suggestion of a friend whilst enjoying a beverage with orange slices stacked on a swizzle stick. In garnering feedback from his young children, they observed that a single orange slice resembled a flower or a sunrise.

The City’s collection includes another of C.R. Gray’s sculptures titled, “Popsicles,” which is located at the roundabout median off of Memorial Drive and near the Orange Memorial Park picnic shelter.
