SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., December 10, 2025 –
On December 9, the South San Francisco City Council selected Mark Addiego, representing District 1, to serve as mayor and Mark Nagales, representing District 2 as vice mayor of South San Francisco through December 2026.
This is a return to familiar ground for Mayor Mark Addiego, who previously served two terms as Mayor during his early years in public service. First elected to the City Council in 1980 as the youngest councilmember in South San Francisco’s history at that time, he was re-elected in 1985 before taking a break from city government. Addiego returned to the Council in 2005, won re-election in 2009, 2013, 2018, and 2022, and has remained a steadfast advocate for transparency in local government, community volunteerism, and responsible land stewardship.
Mark Nagales continues his longstanding commitment to serving the residents of South San Francisco as Vice Mayor for the third time. Since his election, Vice Mayor Nagales has championed neighborhood safety, expanded community services, and strengthened support for working families. His dedication to partnership and inclusive engagement continues to help shape policies that reflect the needs and voices of the entire community.
The City also recognizes outgoing City Manager Sharon Ranals for her decades of exemplary public service. Her steady leadership, deep institutional knowledge, and unwavering dedication to the South San Francisco community have left a meaningful and lasting impact. The City wishes her well in retirement and extends its appreciation for her many years of service.
The City also wishes to express its gratitude to outgoing Mayor Eddie Flores for his leadership in 2025. Under his guidance, South San Francisco celebrated progress in representation, advanced affordable housing and rental assistance, expanded youth and senior services, and strengthened community partnerships. His support for major park improvements, public safety innovations, and key sustainability initiatives, including shoreline protection, EV expansion, helped enhance the quality of life for residents.
