Celebrating Filipino American History Month
Published on October 28, 2025
The City of South San Francisco celebrated Filipino American History Month this weekend with a screening of the Filipino-made film Song of the Fireflies, directed by King Palisoc.
Song of the Fireflies is based on the true story of the Loboc Children's Choir and how through their talent and the sheer determination of their teacher and founder, continues to wow the world and bring pride and honor to the Philippines.
Members of the community, many dressed in traditional attire of the Philippines, gathered at the South San Francisco Library | Parks & Recreation Center, where two screenings of the film were accompanied by servings of pancit and lumpia. A few attendees shared their excitement to see the film being shown at the library since they had missed other Bay Area screenings.
This event was organized by the San Mateo County Chapter of the Filipino American National History Society, and City Councilmember Flor Nicolas and paid for by the South San Francisco Friends of the Library.
