Eddie Flores is a visionary public servant, coalition‑builder, and equity advocate whose career bridges government, business, and education. With longtime roots in South San Francisco and a lifelong commitment to service, he represents the historic and diverse District 5 on the City Council, where he previously served as Mayor. In December 2024, Eddie made history as the first Salvadoran‑born immigrant to serve as Mayor in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the first Salvadoran to serve on a city council in San Mateo County, 2024-2025. He has served on the Council since 2021.

Eddie’s public service journey began with his election to the South San Francisco Unified School District Board of Trustees in 2018, where he served as Board President and graduated from the California School Boards Association’s Masters in Governance program. His leadership extended statewide as an elected delegate serving in the California School Boards Association (CSBA) and the California Latino School Boards Association (CLSBA).

Raised by a single mother after immigrating from El Salvador during the civil war, Eddie became the first in his family to graduate from a four‑year university. He earned undergraduate degrees in Public Policy and Public Health from UC Berkeley and an MBA from San Francisco State University. His professional journey includes senior roles in government affairs, strategic partnerships, and education, where he has consistently aligned business priorities with public policy goals. Eddie’s hallmark is convening diverse stakeholders, from local communities to national coalitions, to drive responsible innovation and inclusive progress. An educator himself, he has taught as adjunct faculty at San Francisco State University’s Lam School of Business.

Beyond City Hall, Eddie is deeply engaged in civic and nonprofit leadership. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula; Leadership Council of San Mateo County; and on the advisory board of the Daly City Youth Health Center. He is a founding member of the REACH Coalition of San Mateo County, a former Senior Fellow with the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley, and an active member of National Association of Latino Elected Officials (NALEO) and local Democratic organizations.

He currently serves in his second year as Chair of the San Mateo Council of Cities, elected unanimously by all 20 mayors in the cities comprising San Mateo County. He is past president of the League of California Cities – Peninsula Division and serves on the Board of the League’s Latino Caucus, where he architects statewide policy strategy and convenes elected officials to advance equity and innovation. Guided by the values of unidad, colaboración, integridad, he leads siempre con propósito.

In his free time, Eddie is an avid sports fan of the Niners, Warriors, Giants, and Cal Bears, a dedicated hiker and a certified Level I sommelier. He lives in the historic Old Town neighborhood of South San Francisco (District 5).
