Welcome to the Planning Division webpage for the City of South San Francisco. 

The Planning Division is responsible for processing applications for new development and additions; administering the General Plan, Zoning Ordinance, and planning permits; and drafting long-range plans and policy documents.

Visit the Planning Counter 

Planning Division staff are available to respond to questions in-person at the Planning counter. The Planning counter is in the City Hall Annex, 315 Maple Avenue, and is open Monday through Friday from 9:00AM - 4:00PM. (The counter is closed everyday from noon-1:00PM and on Tuesdays from 10:00AM-noon for the Planning Division staff meeting.)

Book a Virtual Appointment with a Planner

Planning Division staff are available Monday through Friday for a 30-minute virtual consultation using the Microsoft Teams platform. These brief meetings are designed to assist you with general planning and zoning questions. Planning staff can also provide initial cursory review of projects in early design stages and determine if the project will require a Planning entitlement. Staff can provide initial feedback and information about zoning but are not able to provide specific direction or certainty about project approvals.
