105.5.31 Lumber Yards and Woodworking Plants

Specific Responsibilities for Lumber Yards/Woodworking:

• Maintain Storage Piles: You must maintain the approved lumber pile sizes and the required width of fire access lanes between piles.
• Control Weeds and Debris: The area under and around lumber piles must be kept clear of weeds, debris, and other combustible material.
• Dust Collection: In woodworking plants, the dust collection system must be maintained in full working order to prevent the accumulation of fine wood dust.
• Control Ignition Sources: You must prohibit smoking and open flames in storage and operational areas. A hot work permit is required for any welding or cutting.
• Fire Apparatus Access: All designated fire lanes must be maintained and capable of supporting the weight of fire apparatus.
