105.5.38 Open Flames and Candles

Specific Responsibilities for Open Flames and Candles:

  • Approved Holders: All candles must be placed in substantial, non-combustible holders designed to prevent the candle from tipping over.
  • Protection from Drafts: Keep candles and open-flame devices away from drafts and any combustible materials, such as curtains, tablecloths, and decorations.
  • Constant Supervision: Do not leave open flames or candles unattended while patrons are present.
  • Extinguishing: Ensure staff are trained on how to properly extinguish the candles or open-flame devices at the end of the night or in an emergency.
  • Theatrical Use: If used as part of a performance, the open-flame device must have a fail-safe control to extinguish the flame.
