105.5.41 Places of Assembly

Specific Responsibilities for Places of Assembly:

  • Maintain Means of Egress: You must ensure all aisles, corridors, exit pathways, and exit doors are continuously maintained and free of any obstruction. Required exit doors must not be locked, chained, or blocked while the building is occupied.
  • Post Occupant Load: The approved maximum occupant load sign must be permanently posted in a visible location near the main exit. You are responsible for ensuring this number is never exceeded.
  • Manage Decorations: All combustible decorative materials, including curtains and drapes, must be flame-retardant. You must keep the flame-resistance certificate on-site for verification. Decorations cannot obstruct exits, exit signs, or fire sprinklers.
  • Fire Watch: If required as a condition of your permit (e.g., due to an impaired fire alarm system), you must provide trained fire watch personnel and maintain a detailed log of their patrols.
