105.5.43 Private Fire Hydrants

Specific Responsibilities for Private Fire Hydrants:

  • Annual Inspection & Test: You are responsible for ensuring all private fire hydrants on your property are inspected and tested annually by a qualified person.
  • Maintain in Operable Condition: Any hydrant found to be deficient must be repaired immediately. All hydrants must be maintained in a state of constant readiness.
  • Maintain Clear Access: A minimum of 3 feet of clear space must be maintained around all fire hydrants. Do not allow landscaping, storage, or parking to obstruct the hydrant or its visibility from the fire lane.
  • Color Coding: Maintain the required color coding on the hydrant bonnets and caps to indicate its available water flow.
  • Unauthorized Use: Do not permit the unauthorized use of any private fire hydrant.
