105.5.45 Pyroxylin Plastics

Specific Responsibilities for Pyroxylin Plastics:

• Storage: You must store raw plastic material and finished articles in approved vaults, cabinets, or rooms. Maintain separation between storage and other activities.
• Sprinkler Protection: The approved automatic sprinkler system must be maintained in a fully operational state throughout the storage and handling areas.
• Clearances: Maintain a minimum of 2 feet of clearance between pyroxylin plastic and any heat source or steam pipes.
• Waste Handling: All waste material, shavings, and dust must be collected and stored in covered metal cans filled with water and removed from the facility at least twice a week.
• Control Ignition Sources: Prohibit smoking and open flames in all areas where pyroxylin plastics are handled or stored.
