105.5.53 Waste Handling

Specific Responsibilities for Waste Handling:

  • Maintain Pile Sizes and Separation: You are responsible for maintaining the approved pile sizes and the required aisle widths and separation distances between piles of combustible materials.
  • Fire Lanes: All designated fire apparatus access roads must be maintained and kept clear of all obstructions.
  • Control Ignition Sources: Prohibit all open flames and smoking in operational areas. All hot work, such as cutting with a torch, requires a separate Hot Work Operations permit.
  • Fluid Draining: You must have procedures and equipment for draining flammable and combustible liquids from vehicles and equipment. These fluids must be stored in approved tanks or containers.
  • Water Supply: If a private water supply and hydrants are required for your site, you must ensure they are maintained in a fully operational condition.
