105.5.55 Temporary Heating or Cooking in Tents or Membrane Structures

Specific Responsibilities for Temporary Heating/Cooking:

  • Approved Equipment: You must only use heating and cooking appliances that are listed and approved for this type of use.
  • Maintain Clearances: A minimum clearance of 36 inches must be maintained between all heating and cooking equipment and the tent walls or any combustible materials.
  • LP-Gas Safety: LP-Gas (propane) cylinders must be located outside the tent and secured. Hoses must be protected from damage.
  • Fire Extinguishers: At least one portable fire extinguisher with a minimum 2-A:10-B:C rating (and a Class K for cooking) must be located within 20 feet of the equipment.
  • Constant Supervision: All heating and cooking equipment must be constantly attended while in operation.
