July is National Parks & Recreation Month! 

Join South San Francisco as we celebrate National Parks and Recreation month. This year marks the 41st anniversary of this nationwide celebration. Throughout the month of July we invite the community to  participate in a variety of free programs. Follow along with the Parks and Recreation Department's social media accounts as we highlight and celebrate our Parks and Recreation professionals, programs and parks of South San Francisco.

Celebrate creativity, self-expression, and the incredible talent of our community at the City of South San Francisco Cultural Arts Program's Free to Be... Me 2026 Art Show! This free exhibition invites artists to showcase their unique perspectives and boundless imagination through a diverse collection of artwork. Join us for the opening reception and experience an inspiring display of creativity while connecting with local artists and fellow art enthusiasts.
  • Friday, July 10 | 6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 11 | 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Enjoy a special Hawaiian Hula presentation by the SSF Parks & Recreation Hula Class on Friday.

STARGAZING WITH ASTRO EVERYWHERE!

Join us for a Star Party and experience the wonders of the night sky! Whether you're a seasoned stargazer or simply curious about the cosmos, this free drop-in event invites the community to explore the stars, planets, the Moon, and other celestial objects through guided observation and conversation. Leading the evening is our resident Recreation Instructor and amateur astronomer of 20 years, Josh Roberts. With an academic background in physics and astronomy, Josh is passionate about making space science accessible and engaging for all. He has contributed to astronomy outreach and content creation for the California Academy of Sciences and NASA's Ames Research Center and has participated in numerous Bay Area and national astronomy programs and organizations. Bring your curiosity and discover the beauty of the night sky at this family-friendly Star Party. All ages are welcome. This is an outdoor program, so please dress appropriately for the weather. July evenings can be chilly, so we recommend bringing layers, jackets, and anything else to keep you warm and comfortable. Enjoy the night sky!

 

MOVIE NIGHT IN THE PARK/FIELD DAY

Join us at our first Movie Night in the Park of the summer! July is Parks and Recreation Month. This event will feature additional activities for all ages. The movie will begin at sundown (approx. 8:30 p.m.) in the meadow at Orange Memorial Park. Bring your snacks, beverages, low lying lawn chairs, blankets and sleeping bags! On Friday, July 17, 2026 we will be screening Disney/Pixar’s Zootopia 2. “Zootopia 2” Rookie cops Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde find themselves on the twisting trail of a great mystery when Gary De'Snake arrives in Zootropolis and turns the animal metropolis upside down. To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town, where their growing partnership is tested like never before.
 
Free Activities:
  • Lawn games will start at 6:00 p.m.
  • Free hot dogs will be available at 6:30 p.m.
