Book Discussion

The Wreath follows the life of a young, headstrong woman in 14th-century Norway as she navigates family expectations, a forbidden love, and the consequences of her choices. The novel is celebrated for its historical accuracy and its exploration of themes such as passion, faith, and societal constraints.

Sigrid Undset (1882–1949) was a celebrated Norwegian novelist who won the 1928 Nobel Prize for Literature. She is best known for her masterpiece, Kristin Lavransdatter, a sweeping historical trilogy set in medieval Norway that explores complex themes of faith, passion, and motherhood. Raised by secular parents, she famously converted to Roman Catholicism in 1924, a spiritual journey that deeply influenced her later work. An outspoken critic of Nazism, she fled Norway during WWII and spent the war years advocating for her occupied country from the United States.
