On Tuesday, November 17th at 6 PM, The SSFPL Monthly BookClubwill be discussing Five Litle Indians by John Manuel Arias, in the 2nd Floor Community Room, South San Francisco Library Parks and Recreation Building, 901 Civic Campus Way.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Five Little Indians follows five Indigenous children—Kenny, Lucy, Clara, Maisie, and Howie—who survive severe abuse at a remote church-run residential school in Canada. The story tracks their lives as young adults struggling with deep trauma, addiction, and displacement in Vancouver, while ultimately finding glimmers of resilience, friendship, and hope.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Michelle Good is a Cree writer and member of the Red Pheasant Cree Nation in Saskatchewan who spent decades advocating for Indigenous communities and residential school survivors as a lawyer before earning her MFA in creative writing. Inspired in part by her family's experiences with the Canadian residential school system, she published her award-winning debut novel, Five Litte Indians in 2020, which went on to win major honors including the Governor General's Literary Award and CBC’s Canada Reads.
