Recognizing our Dispatch Team on National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week
Each year, National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week gives us an opportunity to recognize the voices behind the scenes who keep our community safe. In South San Francisco, our dispatchers at our 911 Communications Center serve as the first point of contact in emergencies: calmly guiding callers, gathering critical information, and coordinating police, fire, and medical response when every second counts.
Our 911 Communications Center operates 24/7, answering more than 100,000 calls each year, including approximately 35,000 that require dispatching police or fire personnel. Behind every call is a highly-trained professional using advanced technology and years of experience to ensure help arrives quickly and safely.
Beyond emergency response, our dispatchers provide language access in more than 140 languages, support residents who are deaf or hard of hearing, and help connect the community to important services. Their work is fast-paced, high-pressure, and often unseen, but it is no question how vital they are in keeping our community safe.
This week, we thank our public safety telecommunicators for their unwavering commitment to serving South San Francisco. Happy National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week!
