Help Keep South City Clean
Published on July 22, 2026
Keeping South San Francisco clean is a shared responsibility, and every resident can help make a difference. Illegal dumping of old furniture, mattresses, appliances, construction debris, and other unwanted items creates safety hazards, attracts pests, impacts our environment, and takes valuable City resources to clean up.
Dispose of bulky items the right way. Eligible residents living in single-family homes may receive up to two free bulky item pickups each year through South San Francisco Scavenger. Scheduling a pickup is easy and helps keep our streets and neighborhoods clean.
See illegal dumping? Report it! If you spot illegally dumped items, report them through the Engage SSF app or SeeClickFix. Simply submit the location and a photo from your phone, tablet, or computer, and you'll receive updates as the City works to resolve the issue.

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal
Items such as paint, pesticides, motor oil, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and many household chemicals should never be placed on the curb or in your trash or recycling carts. San Mateo County residents can dispose of these materials free of charge through the County's Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Program. Appointments are required.
For a list of accepted materials, appointment scheduling, and frequently asked questions, visit smchealth.org/hhw or call (650) 372-6200.
Together, we can keep South San Francisco safe, clean, and beautiful for everyone. Thank you for doing your part!
