The South San Francisco Police Department (SSFPD) is proud to support Special Olympics Northern California through two upcoming community events, beginning this Friday, April 24. These efforts help raise critical funds for athletes with intellectual disabilities, giving them access to year-round sports training, competitions, and life-changing opportunities.

There are several ways to get involved, whether you donate, share about the events, or cheer on our officers as they take part in a powerful regional tradition:

1. Friday, April 24, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at The Cove: Badges with Buckets

Officers will be out in the community collecting donations as part of the Badges with Buckets campaign. You will see them stationed with buckets, accepting contributions from passersby to support Special Olympics athletes.

How to help:
• Stop by and donate in person
• Spread the word and encourage others to give
• Make an online donation if you cannot attend

2. May 21, 2026, 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on El Camino Real: Law Enforcement Torch Run

  • South San Francisco Police officers will join agencies across Northern California in the Law Enforcement Torch Run, carrying the Flame of Hope to kick off the Special Olympics Summer Games. This inspiring event represents the partnership between law enforcement and Special Olympics athletes, while raising awareness and funds along the way.
