SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., May 15, 2026 – The City of South San Francisco is preparing to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with a year-long series of events and a vibrant, community-centered Fourth of July celebration that reflects the diversity and spirit of the city.
Following City Council direction, the City will move forward with a comprehensive America 250 work plan that weaves commemorative programming into events and activities throughout the year. Designed to honor the many cultures and experiences that shape the American story, the celebration will highlight the voices, traditions, and contributions of all American individuals and families.
At the heart of the celebration will be a special Saturday, July 4 event in downtown South San Francisco, featuring:
- A community parade near City Hall
- A community picnic along Grand Avenue
- Family-friendly activities, entertainment, and giveaways
- Opportunities to support and engage with local businesses
The event is designed to bring the community together in one shared space, creating a festive experience for all residents of all ages.
Additional elements of the celebration will include patriotic decorations at City Hall, commemorative signage and giveaways, marking the milestone in a bold and visible way.
The City will also explore partnerships and sponsorship opportunities with local organizations, businesses, and community groups to expand the celebration and deepen community involvement.
“This 250th anniversary is more than a historical anniversary; it’s a moment to reflect on who we are and what we stand for,” said Mayor Mark Addiego. “In South San Francisco, we know that the American story isn’t one story. It’s many. It’s families of every background, every culture, and every journey, all contributing to the fabric of our community.”
He continued, “At its core, democracy depends on participation, service, and shared responsibility. The secret to making it work is simple: we show up for one another. And that’s something South City does every day. This celebration is a reflection of that spirit.”
Throughout the year, residents can expect a wide range of programming incorporated into existing City events and services, ensuring that the America 250 celebration is not just a single day, but a shared experience that spans the entire community.
