Popsicles

sculpture of 3 popsicles stacked on top of each other, park in the background

On a warm day in Orange Memorial Park, a visitor might come across a nine foot trio of stacked popsicles apparently melting. What could the flavors be, strawberry? grape? mango?

Selected via a nationwide call, the whimsical sculpture, conceived by Florida artist, C.R. (Craig) Gray, evoked images of youthful delight indulging in this refreshing snack. When creating his large scale public art works, Craig’s goal is to warm the creative soul and bring happiness to the heart.

In the artist’s words, “My sculpture work is inspired by family vacations of my youth in the 1970s. As a child I would ride during summer in the back of a Pinto Wagon watching the world pass by. Some of my designs come from the roadside Americana seen on these trips, other concepts from imagination. I encourage you now, come join me, and ‘Travel down the Holiday Road’!”

The City’s collection includes another of C.R. Gray’s sculptures titled “Slices of Heaven,” which is located at the Tennis Drive entrance to the Orange Memorial Park Sculpture Garden.
