SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., June 25, 2026 - The City of South San Francisco is pleased to announce the promotion of Alex Henry to Public Works Deputy Director following the retirement of longtime Public Works leader Dave Bockhaus.

Alex brings more than 25 years of dedicated service to the City, and most recently served as Public Works Program Manager, where he oversaw Code Enforcement, Fleet Services, Parking, and the maintenance and operation of critical public infrastructure, including traffic signals, street lighting, sanitary sewer systems, stormwater facilities, roadways, and sidewalks.

“Alex’s extensive experience, institutional knowledge, and proven leadership make him exceptionally well qualified to serve as Public Works Deputy Director,” said Public Works Director Eunejune Kim. “Throughout his career, he has demonstrated the Department’s commitment to supporting and sustaining the City’s environment and infrastructure through responsive service, innovative problem solving, and professional excellence. I am confident that Alex will continue advancing the Department’s mission while enhancing the quality of life for residents, businesses, and visitors throughout South San Francisco.”

Alex began his career with the City as a Public Works Maintenance Worker before advancing to Craftsworker, where he developed extensive hands-on expertise in the construction, maintenance, and repair of City facilities and infrastructure. His experience includes municipal improvement projects involving lighting systems, plumbing, carpentry, metal fabrication, and structural repairs.

He later served as Facilities Supervisor, overseeing three shifts responsible for maintaining more than 600,000 square feet of City facilities. Throughout his career, Alex has demonstrated exceptional technical expertise, strong leadership, and a steadfast commitment to public service.

“Having spent my entire career serving South San Francisco, it is an honor to step into this new role,” said Alex. “I look forward to continuing to support our Public Works team and serving our community who rely on our infrastructure and services every day.”

As Deputy Director, Alex will help lead the Department’s efforts to maintain and improve the City’s infrastructure, support essential public services, and advance projects that enhance the community’s quality of life.
