SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., June 11, 2026 – On June 12, 2026, the South San Francisco Police Department will conduct a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Driver’s License Checkpoint from 8:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. at an undisclosed location within the city.

Checkpoint locations are selected based on data identifying areas with a history of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to enhance public safety by identifying and removing suspected impaired drivers from the roadway.

“Impaired drivers put everyone on the road at significant risk,” said Traffic Sergeant Ivan De La Cruz. “Prevention efforts like DUI checkpoints help reduce the number of impaired drivers and improve overall traffic safety in our community.”

The South San Francisco Police Department reminds the public that impairment is not limited to alcohol. Certain prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with the ability to drive safely. Additionally, while medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal in California, driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal.

Drivers convicted of a first-time DUI can face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, in addition to a suspended driver’s license.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Highway Patrol’s Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program.
