Celebrate Safely: Fireworks Remain Illegal in South San Francisco
Published on June 23, 2026
As Independence Day approaches, the City of South San Francisco reminds residents that all fireworks, including those labeled “safe and sane,” are illegal within city limits.
Illegal fireworks pose serious risks to people, pets, homes, and neighborhoods. They can cause fires, injuries, property damage, and unnecessary stress for veterans, older adults, young children, and animals. Fireworks also create debris that must be cleaned from streets, parks, and neighborhoods after the holiday.
Residents are encouraged to celebrate responsibly by attending community events such as the City’s 4th of July Parade and Picnic on Grand Ave, gathering with family and friends, supporting local businesses, and enjoying professional fireworks displays outside the city. Watch this video as a friendly reminder of other celebration options available to you.
If you see illegal fireworks activity, please contact the South San Francisco Police Department’s non-emergency line at (650) 877-8900. Always call 911 for emergencies.
The South San Francisco Police and Fire Departments thank you for partnering with us to keep the community safe. By choosing not to use illegal fireworks, residents can help prevent fires, reduce injuries, and ensure that everyone enjoys a safe and memorable Independence Day.
